City of Cockburn Sport and Recreation Facilities Planning Journey - Focus on Community Engagement

In 2015, the City embarked on the development of the Community, Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan to guide the future provision of all community facilities and reserves over the course of the next 15 years, with the plan recently being adopted at the end of 2018.

The journey which the City took was a highly inclusive community driven process, which took just over 3 years to complete and is the largest ever community engagement process which the City has ever undertaken. Ultimately the outcome has been the development of a clear framework by which facilities/reserves are to be developed, clear prioritisation of projects based on community needs and a commitment from Council of $209M to complete the identified community and sporting infrastructure projects.
