Integrated Community and Elite Sport and Physical Activity Provision in a Higher Education Precinct
This presentation will provide a detailed case study La Trobe University's new sports park facility due for completion at the end of 2019. Prompted by the need for increasing campus connectivity, student amenities, community engagement through sport and physical activity and to facilitate increased research collaborations, the sports park is designed to meet a variety of stakeholder needs. The unique design incorporates sport science laboratories in the middle of an integrated elite and community sport precinct for university and community user groups. This presentation will provide insight into the technical design of the facility to promote multi-mode use and finding a balance between research and communal areas, approaches to stakeholder management and satisfying multiple user group expectations, as well as the metrics that will be used to measure research outcomes, community and student experiences, and collaboration with commercial partners in the sport industry.
