Wharf Street Basin Next Generation Community Park - A City of Canning project to turn an inaccessible stormwater basin into a community smart park.

This presentation outlines the design developed by Josh Byrne & Associates (JBA) in association with project partners, for a smart community park that converts an existing inaccessible Water Corporation-owned basin into a fully integrated ecological, cultural, educational and technology-based park while maintaining its existing water management functions.

Through smart design and technology solutions, based on the use of environmental data and community needs, the concept includes design to promote the natural environment; a living lab where water quality and levels will be recorded in real-time; interactive education stations; a bridge for pedestrians to access Cecil Avenue from Wharf Street; a boardwalk on the Wharf Street side of the basin and; technology to provide information on environmental conditions at the park.
