Technical Tour 1

Wednesday 30 October, 9.30am-12.30pm

Developing a sense of place - the story of Yagan Square, Elizabeth Quay and City Projects

This tour will take in the precincts of Yagan Square, Elizabeth Quay and City Projects. Hear from the City of Perth and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority on the redevelopment and place activation providing a sense of community connection, place and destination.

Surfside! Scarborough Beach and City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club Facilities and Precincts

Surf clubs provide wonderful community and cultural benefits. Join us and explore Scarborough Beach and City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club facilities and surrounding precincts. Hear from those involved in the design and activation and see the facilities including the club, health and fitness, pool, skatepark and playspaces.

Optus Stadium

Optus Stadium - Expect the Unexpected.

Optus Stadium is transforming the way fans experience major sport and entertainment events. Every design decision for the $1.46 billion, multi-purpose, 60,000-seat Optus Stadium is about achieving a singular vision "an unsurpassed visitor experience every time, every event". The stadium's innovative design, a collaboration between HASSELL, Cox and HKS, feels distinctly local, with architecture and landscaping that reflect the state's proud sporting, cultural and Aboriginal heritage.

Perth Playspaces

The Perth Playspaces tour will take in the iconic Rio Tino Naturescape Kings Park Playspace and Chevron Parklands, along with Braithwaite Park, Russell Street Pop Up Park, Whale Playground at Scarborough and the much-acclaimed Jo Wheatley All Abilities Playspace. Join us as we explore the best of the Perth metropolitan area playspaces, design and techniques.

Cockburn ARC - Precincts and Programs

Hosted by the City of Cockburn, the Heart Foundation and the Fremantle Dockers, the Cockburn ARC is a leading-edge recreation and aquatic centre unlike anything else in Perth. It boasts first class sport and recreation amenities along with the inclusion of the Fremantle Dockers AFL Club facilities and training grounds. With a rapidly growing population and many existing leisure facilities reaching the end of their lifespan, the City of Cockburn decided to create a ground breaking, completely new health and recreation opportunity for its community. As one of the largest developments of its kind in Australia, Cockburn ARC makes a significant contribution to Perth residents in the South Metropolitan Corridor. Experience the state-of-the-art facilities first hand, take a look inside the Fremantle Dockers facilities and hear from the Heart Foundation about their internationally recognised Healthy Active By Design Tool which helps to support community health and wellbeing through the design of the built environment.

Kings Park - Cultural Heritage, Research and Events

Kings Park is one of the world's largest inner-city parks. It is rich in Aboriginal and European history, contemporary culture and offers innovative design, displays and services. Join us on the tour at 'Karrakatup', the local Noongar name for Mt Eliza and Kings Park. You will learn of the hill's intriguing past and spiritual significance to its Traditional Owners, beginning with a Noongar welcome.

Kings Park also has an international reputation for scientific research, leading horticulture, conservation and public education. The Western Australian Botanic Garden, displays over 3,000 species of the State's unique flora and two thirds of the 400-hectare park is protected as bushland and provides a haven for native biological diversity.

The final part of this tour includes discussion on the activation of the park for events and activities that open to the general public throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming you the parklands where you can enjoy sweeping views of the Swan River and city skyline.
